Overview

Issue 10, titled Invasion is the next major update to City of Heroes and City of Villains. No release date has been announced. If NCsoft and Cryptic maintain a release schedule of every three to four months, the approximate date of release will be sometime in the month of August 2007.

Known Changes

NCsoft and Cryptic have made no formal announcements regarding what features will be included in Issue 10. However, the following information has been gathered from interviews and other statements made by developers and community representatives.

Likely to Be Included

  • The return of "an old familiar villain group," widely speculated to be the Fifth Column. According to Positron, "This group will have their power center altered and bring about massive changes to the game as a whole. Heroes and Villains will find themselves banding together against a common threat." [1]
  • Supergroup bases and user interface are being overhauled in Issue 10 or Issue 11. (Needs citation)
  • "Issue 10 will focus on a level range that you guys have been clamoring about for a while." [2]
  • According to Manticore, Issue 10 will "Definitely not bring back the 5th Column (wink.)" (Needs citation)

Not Confirmed Yet

  • New enemy group: Vanguard Shield. Probably out to combat the Rikti, but will be at odds with heroes because of their methods. (Needs citation)
In a recent forum post, user Kobolt_Thunder speculated that the Vanguard/Vanguard Shield would be contacts in the new combined zone, rather than enemies. The idea is that Vanguard would be a group willing to recruit heroes or villains, as needed, to get the job done, fighting the Rikti. In a post soon after, Positron referenced Kobolt's post, and called it a "very nice theory". [3]
Under "Nemeses" on any Paragon City Community Information terminal, there are categories for "Vanguard_Shield Nemeses" and "Vanguard_Sword Nemeses".
  • Rikti Home World missions will be level range 35-40 and joint between Heroes and Villains. (Needs citation)

Confirmed Not to Be Included

  • Issue 10 will not raise the level cap past 50. [4]
  • New powersets will not be included in Issue 10. [5]
  • There is no Moon Zone in Issue 10, but possibly in later issues [6]
